DAN Q&A
Q: What does DAN do?
A: Diabetes Aid Now (DAN) is a new US-based mutual aid group that connects diabetics in need of medication, supplies, and resources with those who have extra to share. Facilitating the shipment of supplies is our top priority, but we can occasionally coordinate funding for copays.
Q: Does DAN take donations?
A: No, DAN does not take/hold funding or supplies. We facilitate connections between those with funding and supplies and diabetics who need them.
Q: Who can ask for help?
A: Any diabetic, their caregiver, or a trusted person can request help for a diabetic in need.
Q: Can DAN help in an emergency?
A: No. DAN is a small volunteer run group. It can take us up to 3 days or 72 hours to respond to a request.
Q: What types of diabetes does DAN cover?
A: Literally all of them! Gestational, Neonatal, Wolfram Syndrome, Alström Syndrome, Steroid-Induced, Type 1, Type 1.5 aka Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults, Type 2, Type 3c, Type 5, Cystic Fibrosis-Related Diabetes, Maturity-Onset Diabetes of the Young, and any other type we haven’t listed. (Do you have a type of diabetes not listed here? We’ll add it to our materials if you send us a message: [email protected])
Q: Can DAN help with an insurance denial?
A: No, DAN does not offer assistance navigating insurance, patient assistance programs, pharmacy or health care provider issues. Mutual Aid Diabetes may be able to help you. In the meantime, DAN may be able to help you get the supplies and medication you need.
Q: Does DAN need proof of financial hardship to help me?
A: No, we don’t do any “means-testing” for our services. You can learn more about our group’s beliefs here.
Q: Can DAN help people outside the United States?
A: We have no idea! Anything outside the US is not our area of expertise, but if you submit a request we’ll see if we can help or find you a local resource.
